Hands-on Lymph Centre
The lymphatic system is the body’s own natural waste removal system. Fluid and waste material that is being pushed out of the blood circulatory system into the tissues, is picked up by the lymphatic system.
It is then send through lymph nodes to be filtered. All foreign materials and possible harmful organisms are being destroyed and the waste material is being transferred for excretions through the excretion system.
The clean fluid is then send back into the blood circulatory system at the venous angle. In certain circumstances the lymphatic system ceases to operate optimally. For example in cancers where lymph nodes are removed, or after any surgical procedure or trauma where lymph vessels are damaged.
Even illnesses, infections, viruses, parasites etc., can cause damage to either the lymph system or interfere with the lymph system preventing it to work optimally. In these cases, a person will experience swelling in the affected area of the body.
This swelling is referred to as lymphoedema and that is where lymphoedema therapy comes in. With lymph treatment we ensure all the remaining and healthy lymph nodes stays operating optimally and we create new lymph pathways for the excess fluid in the tissues to drain into.
We do this by making use of a skin-stretching massage technique to promote lymph flow through the body and away from the affected area.
We also apply compression bandages to heavy swollen limbs to see a faster result along with the massage technique. In this manner we reduce the swelling, and the patient regains full function of the affected area.
We also teach patients to care for their lymphoedema at home and to be able to continue with manual lymph drainage, bandaging, skin care, and exercises on their own
Once a patient’s limb measurements are reduced, we also measure and apply for compression garments for long term maintenance of the lymphoedema.
We also supply Home Programs to all patients.
Covid also has a great effect on the lymph system. By treating the lymphatic system and by keeping your lymphatic system healthy, it can aid in the fight against Covid.
